16/3/202  Travel ban throws autumn carnival into chaos

The announcement of travel restrictions due to the Covid-19 crisis is set to shake up Sydney’s autumn carnival with three horses from Japan, including Doncaster Mile (Gr 1, 1600m) favourite Mozu Ascot (Frankel), now in doubt to make the journey. They were due to arrive midweek. “The bottom line is the three overseas horses already here are right to go but the others must be highly doubtful,” ATC General Manager Media Brett de Vine said yesterday. “We’ve only had an hour to digest this (the announcement) and we really need to get total clarity about what can and can’t happen.” Several runners from New Zealand will also be affected by the travel restrictions.
