16/11/2020 Group 1 tilt for Too Close The Sun

Ascot Gold Cup (Listed, 1800m) winner Too Close The Sun (Carlton House) has earned a shot at the Railway Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Ascot on Saturday, with trainer Lindsey Smith pleased with how he has pulled up. Too Close The Sun was initially being primed for a shot at the Perth Cup (Gr 2, 2400m) on January 2, but the stable may have to abandon that plan if he excels in the $1 million Railway Stakes. “He looked pretty good here yesterday and he’s pulled up well so we’ll go again next week in the Railway,’’ Smith told Racing.com. “It (victory) might interfere with the Perth Cup but that’ll be all right. Next Saturday looks a pretty good race for him with that weight (53 kilograms) and the fact he camps on speed and makes his own luck. Plus, with the restrictions this year and not many eastern state horses here, it might just be the right year to go for a race like that.”
