Thunder Mania (Snitzel) may have dispatched a decent field at the Sunshine Coast on Friday, but co-trainers John Symons and Sheila Laxton are not yet certain the talented colt will make the cut for the J J Atkins (Gr 1, 1400m). His most recent victory took his earnings to over $70,000, which should be enough to secure his spot, but if he needs to run again to cement his place, then that would be the plan. Symonds is rueing the amendment in distance for this year, made due to the heavily revised winter carnival schedule: "As I have regularly said our only regret is the JJ Atkins isn't 1600m and has dropped back to 1400m. If ever there was a horse looking for 1600m it is him," Symons said.
