15/4/2019 Fast Fleet the latest wildcard addition to The Chairman’s Sale
Dam of five-time Group 1 winner Santa Ana Lane (pictured) to be offered at Riverside Stables on May 3

The opportunities afforded to breeders at next month’s The Chairman’s Sale were given a significant boost yesterday as Inglis announced Fast Fleet (Fastnet Rock) - the dam of five-time Group 1 winner Santa Ana Lane (Lope De Vega) - as the latest wildcard addition to the boutique one-day offering at Riverside Stables. The winning Fastnet Rock (Danehill) 12-year-old, who is a half-sister to three stakes performers, will be offered by Aquis Farm in foal to Widden Stud shuttler Zoustar (Northern Meteor) - the sire of sprint-sensation Sunlight - when she comes under the gavel on May 3. Aquis CEO Shane McGrath described Fast Fleet as ‘an outstanding physical and a mare at the peak of her powers’ following the recent T J Smith Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) victory of Santa Ana Lane, who showed a devastating turn of foot to account for a high-class field when winning by three and a half lengths on day one of The Championships at Randwick.
“She is only 12 and has been very conservatively mated,’’ McGrath said. “On her one mating with a topclass stallion she has produced arguably the best sprinter in the world, which speaks volumes for her quality. “She is in-foal to one of the most exciting young stallions in the world and is an appealing mating for plenty of the most commercial stallions in the land, so I expect she will appeal to a broad cross section of people.” A 1500-metre maiden winner at three, Fast Fleet has so far produced two foals to have hit the track, both of whom have won, with Santa Ana Lane a half-brother to Ipswich scorer The Black Tide (Kuroshio). The Anthony Freedman-trained Santa Ana Lane, who was propelled to the top of the Timeform tree when awarded a figure of 130 following his T J Smith success, has also landed the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m), the Goodwood Handicap (Gr 1, 1200m), the Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1350m) and the Sprint Classic (Gr 1, 1200m). The six-year-old is now set to line-up in the Chairman’s Sprint Prize (Gr 1, 1200m) at Sha Tin on April 28 prior to a potential tilt at the Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at Royal Ascot in June - the flagship sprint with a roll of honour that includes Starspangledbanner (Choisir), Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) and Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock).
Fast Fleet is herself a half-sister to the Waikato Guineas (Gr 3, 2000m) winner Blimey O’Reilly (O’Reilly) and the Listed winner Flag Officer (Excites), while further back this is the family of US Grade 1 winner Geri (Theatrical). She produced a filly foal by Darley shuttler Frosted (Tapit) last year prior to being served by Zoustar in September. The Widden Stud-based shuttler, who is currently standing his first northern hemisphere breeding season at Tweenhills Stud for a fee of £25,000, is the sire of seven stakes winners and five Group-level scorers, including three-time Group 1 heroine Sunlight - a brilliant winner of the William Reid Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) at Moonee Valley last month - Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as the Ascot Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m) third Lean Mean Machine as well as Zousain, who has finished runner-up in top-tier company on three occasions. As a nick, Zoustar over Fastnet Rock has thus far produced five winners and nine runners from 12 named foals, including Twilight Glow Stakes (Listed, 1400m) victor Persuader, who has won two of his ten outings. Inglis’ NSW bloodstock manager Chris Russell expressed his delight on behalf of the auction house following yesterday’s announcement. “Aquis Farm and the Fung family have been great supporters of our sales right throughout the year, particularly last week at the Easter Sale, and we are delighted to be able to offer a mare of this quality on their behalf,” he said. “The fact that he is the 1200-metre track record holder at Randwick speaks volumes for the class of Santa Ana Lane and as we saw at the Easter Sale last week, people love buying yearlings out of mares that are proven producers.” Zoustar had 13 lots sell at the Inglis Australian Easter Sale, including a $1 million half-brother to Bullpit (Speed ‘N’ Power), who was knocked down to Orbis Bloodstock having been offered by Wildes Meadow on behalf of Milburn Creek.
The Chairman’s Sale will be held at Riverside Stables on the evening of Friday May 3 from 6.30pm and the main catalogue of 53 lots includes Group 1 winners Aloisia (Azamour) and Srikandi (Dubawi), who is in foal to Coolmore shuttler American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile), with the US Triple Crown winner having sired his first winner from his first runner when the Aidan O’Brien-trained Monarch Of Egypt won at Naas on Saturday. Fast Fleet joins Maastricht (Mastercraftman), the dam of Inglis Sires’ (registered as the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes) runner-up Loving Gaby (I Am Invincible) - who is back in foal to Yarraman Park sire-sensation I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) - Symi (Fastnet Rock), a winning sister to Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) scorer Catchy, and Sensibility (Redoute’s Choice), who was placed in the Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) and who is also in foal to I Am Invincible, as early wildcard entries. Additional wildcard entries will be considered up until Monday, April 22.
