17/10/2019 Godolphin with many chances at Randwick

A flash of form at his latest outing has boosted hopes that former English sprinter Home Of The Brave can add to his record in Saturday’s $500,000 G3 Sydney Stakes at Randwick.

An accomplished performer throughout his career, Home Of The Brave (Glyn Schofield) is a G2 winner in Australia in the Theo Marks Stakes last spring where he had the multiple G1 winner Trapeze Artist behind him.

In his five runs since that victory, his most recent effort when second to Brutal in the G2 Premiere Stakes at Randwick two weeks ago has been his best.

“He’s shown us that at the age of eight he’s still got plenty to offer,” said trainer James Cummings.

“His second to Brutal last start was the run of a horse who is in very good form and if he can put two together, he’ll be competitive again.”

Home Of The Brave will be accompanied by stablemate Deprive, who drops back from G1 level in the Sydney Stakes.

“He didn’t get it done at G1 in the Rupert Clarke, but he’s back at Randwick where he’s undefeated in five starts at the track and he’s on fresh legs, which is when he races best,” Cummings said.

On a day when the cream of Australian sprinters battle it out in The Everest, one of Godolphin’s great Australian workhorses, Tally (Josh Parr), gets his chance to add to his million dollars in racetrack earnings in the G3 Craven Plate.

“This is a target race for Tally,” Cummings said.

“He’s third-up at 2,000m which should be a good formula for one of our stable favourites.”

The Stakes-race contingent at Randwick is completed by the well-connected fillies Avon River (Nash Rawiller), Palurien (Glen Boss) and Special Snap (Tim Clark) in the Listed Reginald Allan Stakes.

“This looks a race that is there for the taking for a filly on the way up, and we have a selection of runners who fit the bill,” Cummings said.

“Avon River is in great form and is still on an upward trajectory, Palurien steps up from a Newcastle maiden win but she’s going in the right direction and Special Snap put in a very promising effort first-up at Warwick Farm.”

“They’re all well-bred fillies who are capable of earning Black Type here.”
