Jul 9th 2020 Waller seeks sentimental Guineas win

Chris Waller has prepared 47 stakes winners this season but victory in the Winx Guineas (Gr 3, 1600m) at the Sunshine Coast this weekend would be special. The Sunshine Coast Guineas has been renamed the Winx Guineas this year in honour of the Waller-trained mare, whose win in this race in 2015 launched her historic 33-win streak. Winx (Street Cry) was part-owned by Debbie Kepitis, who also races Waller’s Winx Guineas contender this weekend Starla (Snitzel). "She has won up to 1550 metres but the distance is still a worry. Starla has drawn barrier one so hopefully we can ride her conservatively to get the 1600 metres," Waller’s Queensland manager Paul Shailer said. "Starla has the second highest rating in the race so the weight scale also suits her. She has done well since Doomben and Michael Cahill rode a treble last week so it is all go."

In early betting markets, Star of Michelin is the $3.60 favourite. Starla is currently $6.50. Check out the latest betting markets.
