6/12/2018 Maiden winner for little-known sire Straight

A debut victory for Chill The Beer (2 g ex Ishi Naughty by Ishiguru) at Ipswich yesterday provided relatively unknown stallion Straight (Lonhro) with a breakthrough first winner as a sire. Trained by Stu Kendrick, the juvenile beat favourite Mishani Romance (Real Saga) in the Go Racing @IpswichTurfClub Handicap (1100m). Straight, who won two of his 13 career starts, stands at Jen Sommerfield's Blue Hills Thoroughbreds complex between Dalby and Oakey on the western Darling Downs. "He hasn't covered many mares and mainly for his owner (Steve Pamenter) who bred Chill The Beer. Hopefully this will give him a kick along," Sommerfield said. "His sister is here in foal to Spill The Beans and Chill The Beer's older three-year-old sister was placed at the Gold Coast recently."
