Oct 12 2020 Russian Camelot in good order

Danny O’Brien is pleased with how Russian Camelot (Camelot) has pulled up following his shock defeat to Arcadia Queen (Pierro) in the Caulfield Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) on Saturday. Russian Camelot remains the clear favourite for the Cox Plate on October 24 and it is still well on track for the 100th running of the Group 1 contest. “He’s pulled up super, he’s been bouncing around all morning,” O’Brien told Racing.com. “We were still really happy with his run yesterday, he was just beaten by a good horse who returned to her best form. He’s definitely more suited in races with more pressure, so I think the Cox Plate will suit him perfectly. Yesterday [Saturday] was basically a leisurely gallop and then they just worked home strong which doesn’t suit him.” If he runs well in the Cox Plate, then a shot at the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) beckons for Russian Camelot. “It’s always been the aim to head there, so as long as he pulls up well, I think we still will,” he said.
