Emerging stallion Rubick (Encosta De Lago) continued his encouraging first season at stud with his juvenile son Excess Funds (2 c ex Save A Penny by Exceed And Excel), who delivered on his debut promise with a dominant two-and-a-quarter length victory in the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Handicap (1000m) at Sandown yesterday. The Levi Kavanagh trained Excess Funds, who was an $85,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale purchase from the Moobi Farm draft, defeated the stakes winner Mockery (Verrazano) with McCullum (Deep Field) another two lengths back in third place. Excess Funds is the 15th two-year-old winner for the Coolmore Stud-based Rubick, who will stand for an increased fee of $38,500 (inc GST) in 2019 where he is assured of covering a full book of mares.
