26/7/2019 Begg seeking soft ground for Romancer

The weather has played a big part in Grahame Begg's decision to run Romancer (Redwood) at Caulfield rather than travel him interstate. The trainer had also nominated Romancer for the Winter Challenge (Listed, 1500m) at Rosehill, but with rain on Tuesday and showers forecast for today in Melbourne, he decided the Catanach's Jewellers Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield was the best option for the last-start VRC Winter Championship Final (Listed, 1600m) runner-up. "The weather prediction was for the rain here and that's what he relishes, getting soft ground," Begg said. "He does relish soft tracks, which is one thing, and I really believe a mile (1600m) is right at the top of his distance range.”
In early betting markets Romancer is $3.90. Check out the latest  Catanach's Jewellers Handicap betting markets
