8/8/2019  Meech keeps the ride on Reykjavik

Lindsey Smith may have begun an association with Linda Meech by default when she rode for him for the first time last month, but the trainer has actively pursued the premiership winner to partner his horse Reykjavik (Artie Schiller) in Saturday's Aurie's Star Handicap at Flemington. The five-year-old gelding was one of 15 final acceptors for the 1200-metre sprint in what will be Meech's second ride for Smith following her win on the same horse in the Winter Championship Series Final (Listed, 1600m) at Flemington in July. "He had no weight that day and Dean Yendall's manager chose another horse in the Championship so I'd watched her ride on the TV and I knew she was a high-class jockey," Smith told Racing. com. "With no weight (54kg), I put her on and then the owner asked me to put her back on the horse in the race on Saturday, so I was lucky to get her."
In early betting markets, Reykjavik is $10. Check out the latest Aurie's Star Hcp betting market
