13/1/2019 Bjorn Scores Redouble on Magic Millions Raceday

It didn't quite match his 2014 heroics with Unencumbered but Bjorn Baker took training honours at the Gold Coast on Saturday thanks to the victory of his talented five-year-old Redouble in the $1 million Woodford Reserve Magic Millions Cup (1400m).

It didn't quite match his 2014 heroics with Unencumbered but Bjorn Baker took training honours at the Gold Coast on Saturday thanks to the victory of his talented five-year-old Redouble in the $1 million Woodford Reserve Magic Millions Cup (1400m).

It was the second leg of a lucrative double for the Sydney horseman, who only hours earlier saddled up Egyptian Symbol to the win the $1 million Magic Million Snippets (1200m).

Craig Williams plotted an inside path to victory on the well-supported son of Redoute's Choice, who found the lead inside the final 200m before holding out the late challenge of Sambro and Shogun Sun.

For Williams, who finished unplaced on his five other Magic Millions rides, the win aboard Redouble was a satisfying end to what he described as one of the nation's premier racedays.

"It's been a tough day of racing (for me) but credit to Bjorn Baker and his team, they've done a great job with this horse," Williams said.

"It's an amazing carnival, you've got people from all around the world at the sales all week."

Purchased for $200,000 out of Torryburn Stud's draft at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Redouble has now won more than $950,000 in prizemoney for connections.

Baker was involved in at least nine yearling purchases on the opening three days of the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, including Lot 51, a daughter of Snitzel out of 2013 Magic Millions Classic winner Real Surreal, that was knocked down for $450,000.
