24/7/2018 Lightning for Nature Strip

Sunlight will face stiff competition from talented sprinter Nature Strip (Nicconi) in Saturday’s Lightning Stakes after his trainer David Weir confirmed the three-year-old gelding will swerve the Bletchingly Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) in favour of a crack at Adelaide’s Listed contest. Weir announced that the six-time winner will head west to Morphettville after he impressed in his trackwork on Tuesday morning under Harry Coffey. "It's just a nice race for him against his own age. Obviously the way the Bletchingly is shaping up it's going to be a proven Group 1 field and at this stage of the horse's preparation with the slight freshen-up and back to the 1050 metres fits in well,” said Weir’s foreman Jarrod McLean. "I am very upbeat about the horse every times he steps out. He's just an imposing individual in everything he does. He does it with ease and again we saw him here working well this morning.”
