Three runners, led by the superbly consistent Multaja, make up the Godolphin challenge in the Tatt’s Tiara, the final G1 race of the Australian season at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Multaja (Jeff Lloyd) goes to the race as the one to beat in the final run of a preparation that includes three wins and two seconds from her past five starts, the most recent a stunning victory in the Listed Coughlan Stakes at Doomben.
The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro is joined on Saturday by Pohutukawa (Blake Shinn) and Savatiano (Tommy Berry), and while she is the leading contender on paper, either of her stablemates is capable of prevailing should she put a foot wrong.
“There’s no doubt this is a big step up for her from a Listed race last time, but she’s been very impressive in each of her runs this preparation,” said stable foreman Nacim Dilmi who has supervised the team’s Queensland preparation.
“The way she won last time gave us the confidence to run in this race. She had a nice gallop on Tuesday morning on the course proper at Eagle Farm and she’s coming to this race on fresh legs.”
Pohutukawa arrives at Saturday’s race armed with all the ability she showed in winning a G3 at Kembla Grange back in March still bottled up.
“She was very lucky to stay on her feet last start and she was unlucky in the one before that too,” Dilmi said.
The Godolphin trio is completed by Savatiano, a last-start winner of the G3 Moreton Stakes over 1,300m here four weeks ago and another live chance.
“She’s feeling very well and deserves her chance after last start when everything fell into place,” Dilmi said.
Godolphin also goes into the G3 WJ Healy Stakes at Eagle Farm with strong prospects in Intuition (Jeff Lloyd) and Isaurian (Tommy Berry).
Intuition appears favoured by the drop back to 1,200m here after his last start fifth behind Redouble in the Listed Spear Chief Stakes over 1,400m at Doomben, while Isaurian is a last start winner of the Listed Chief De Beers Stakes at the same track.
“After he ran fifth at Doomben the other day, his rider James McDonald suggested to bring him back to a shorter trip,” Dilmi said.
“So he goes to the 1,200m here and Eagle Farm should suit him better than Doomben.”
The Eagle Farm contingent is completed by Duca Valentinois (Tim Clark) in the Listed GH Mumm Stakes and the two-year-old Kordia (Blake Shinn) in the Listed Winning Edge Presentation Stakes.
