10/11/2020 Sound chasing Sandown win

Mike Moroney believes veteran stayer Sound (Lando) can finally break his Australian maiden status in the Zipping Classic (Gr 2, 2400m) at Sandown on Saturday. Moroney was hoping the eight-year-old would get a run in the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m), but he missed out after finishing second in the Hotham Handicap (Gr 3, 2500m). Instead, Sound will line up in the $250,000 Zipping Classic on his 20th start since arriving in Australia and will be aiming to go one better than the three runner-up efforts he has recorded so far this season. "He's racing well. He deserves to break through," Moroney said. "It's hard to believe he's a maiden out here but he's been a great money-spinner having won almost $700,000." Moroney said he skipped the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) on the weekend as he had run the previous two Saturdays. "He's a bit older and the back up would have been too much. I'm very happy with him and the form he's in," he said.
