14th September 2020  Master Of Wine ‘amazing’

Stablemate Master Of Wine (Maxios) left his connections delighted after finishing less than two lengths behind winner Fierce Impact (Deep Impact) in Saturday’s Makybe Diva Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m). The six-year-old finished in good style to put himself in the picture for a crack at the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m). “He ran terrifically; he was three-deep, but he had plenty of cover,” co-trainer Wayne Hawkes told Racing.com. “It worked out well other than the fact that they didn’t go overly hard in the race and he was probably a little bit flat-footed when they quickened. But gee whiz, running through the line I thought it was amazing, to be totally honest. When you run a fourth you don’t get many ‘amazing’s, do you? So he’s on song, he’s heading towards the Caulfield Cup and all of the big races over the spring carnival. We don’t know what we’ll do with him, we just wanted to see how he’d run at Flemington over the mile and he ran out of his skin.”
