3/8/2019 Magic Albert dies, aged 21

Magic Albert (Zeditave), the sire of four Group 1 winners including Ilovethiscity and Albert The Fat, has died of suspected heart failure at Kooringal Stud in southern NSW aged 21. The former Albert Stapleford-trained Magic Albert, who won seven of his 13 starts including the Peter Pan Stakes (Gr 2, 1500m) and the Spring Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m), was due to start his 18th season at stud next month but it was announced yesterday that the chestnut stallion had died. “Magic Albert has been a stalwart of Australian breeding for many years, he was in wonderful condition and he continued to look bright and very content,” Kooringal Stud principal Stuart Lamont said. Magic Albert retired to Yarraman Park Stud in 2002 and remained there until relocating to Kooringal Stud in 2016. Magic Albert has sired 601 winners and 24 stakes winners.
