October 19, 2020 Kah snares Cox Plate ride
Melbourne’s leading rider Jamie Kah has snared her first Cox Plate ride following confirmation on Sunday that the import Buckhurst is set to back-up this Saturday from his Caulfield Cup run.
Owner Lloyd Williams said via text on Sunday that Kah had been booked for the Caulfield Cup’s seventh placegetter, who Williams said will be better suited at 2000 metres on a dry surface.
Buckhurst, who has an international rating of 114 so should have no troubles in making the Cox Plate field of 14, was just off the pace early in the Caulfield Cup before fading to seventh, beaten 3.4 lengths behind Verry Elleegant.
Kah, 24, has ridden for Williams in the past with her group 3 Manion Cup win aboard Midterm their biggest success together.
With 20 winners in Melbourne already this season, Kah leads the Melbourne jockey’s premiership by four winners from Damien Oliver and Ben Melham.
In early Cox Plate betting markets Buckhurst is now $26.
