16/9/2019 Groundswell impresses

Groundswell (Fastnet Rock), the highest-priced yearling sold in Australia in 2018, returned from a spell with a first-up victory in a Geelong maiden yesterday. A brother to Group 1 winner Shoals, the Anthony Freedman-trained three-year-old won the 1218-metre race by a length from Beau Zoom (Brazen Beau), while Sweeping The Board (Toronado) was another two and three quarter lengths away in third. “That was a very good performance. I know we are only on a Sunday here but he gave me a really good feel,” Groundswell’s jockey Mark Zahra told “He has taken a little while to mature and the blinkers went on and he is a different horse. He won like not a bad horse today. He impressed me the way he won today and I think he’ll take the next step, for sure.” Groundswell made $2.3 million at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
