22/7/2019  19 for Deep Field

Astro Boy Toy (2 c ex Johan’s Toy by Johan Cruyff) scored an impressive victory on debut at the Sunshine Coast yesterday to provide his sire Deep Field with his 19th first crop juvenile winner, surpassing the mark set by his own sire Northern Meteor (Encosta De Lago). Trained by Toby Edmonds, Astro Boy Toy won the Digital Vision Direct Maiden (1200m) by one and a quarter lengths over Love Express (Love Conquers All) with Shono Mercy (Show A Heart) another one and a half lengths back in third. A $260,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Edmonds from the Newgate Farm draft, Astro Boy Toy was one of three winners on the card for the trainer. Deep Field, who will stand for $44,000 (inc GST) this year at Newgate Farm, is second behind Better Than Ready (More Than Ready) on the leading first season sire championship by number of winners, with the son of More Than Ready (Southern Halo) represented by 21 first crop winners.
