26/7/2019 Cradle Mountain earns distance test

Cradle Mountain (West Quest) will chase his first black-type win in the Winter Challenge at Rosehill tomorrow - the final stakes race of the Sydney season. The gelding performed admirably when finishing fourth, beaten less than a length, by Group 1 performer Eckstein (I Am Invincible) at his last-start, a performance that gave his trainer Clare Cunningham the green light to step him up to 1500 metres. "Last start was his first time over 1400 (metres), we thought he really enjoyed that distance and he gives us the indication he'll enjoy even further,” Cunningham said. "I hadn't had a reason to try that in the past, the type of preparation we've been having it's worth trying it now and finding out his scope and how far he'll get."
