12/9/2019 Dry track to suit Bivouac in G2 Run To The Rose
Mike Hedge

A firmer track is expected to make the difference for Bivouac when the colt attempts to make amends for his last-start defeat in Saturday’s G2 Run To The Rose at Rosehill.

A brilliant winner first-up at Caulfield last month, Bivouac appeared set for a repeat on a heavy track in the G3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill two weeks ago, but the colt failed to hold off the finish of Exceedance in the 1,100m event.

“He was beaten by a good horse first-up on a very heavy track,” said trainer James Cummings.

“He can go a lot better and getting back on top of the ground could be the difference he needs.”

A member of Godolphin’s illustrious two-year-old team of last season, Bivouac’s two juvenile victories included the defeat of the exceptional filly Libertini.

He is joined at Rosehill by the first-up specialist Demerara, who resumes along with stablemate Resin in the G2 Sheraco Stakes, and the Sepoy gelding Subedar in the Listed Dulcify Stakes.

“Demerara has won first-up five times, so she’s a highly capable mare when fresh,” Cummings said.

“She’s coming along beautifully, her trials have been good, she’s been competitive in Group company previously and has the opportunity here to step up."

Resin is more notable as a second-up performer, but could still make her presence felt."

“She’s going as well as ever and is looking capable of returning to winning form, although she usually improves on her first-up run," her trainer said.

Subedar is another who will be out to redeem himself at Rosehill following his last-start defeat at the same track at G3-level two weeks ago, having won at his only two previous starts.

“He probably didn’t handle the heavy track last start,” Cummings said.

“But he was beaten five lengths in a G3 and they didn’t break 36.5 for the last 600m.”

“Nevertheless, he’s a talented, improving horse.”
