11/1/2016 Records Continue to Tumble on Gold Coast
The
record breaking form of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale
continued today with a new record average and gross achieved during the
Book Two sale.
A
colt by Written Tycoon and a filly by Sebring topped the proceedings
during Day Five of the sale when selling for $230,000 on a day where six
lots for $200,000 or more and 28 sold for six figures.
Buoyant
trade helped push the average up 12 per cent on last year's sale, while
the sale gross soared 25 per cent - both figures records for this day
of the auction.
The
top priced colt, the Written Tycoon-Rate the Choice youngster was
purchased by Victorian trainer Mark Riley from the draft of Woodside
Park. He is a half brother to two winners including the smart Hong Kong
galloper Graceful Kingdom.
The
colt's dam, a once raced Redoute's Choice mare, is a three quarter
sister to Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Bradbury's Luck and she
hails from the family of Skates - the dam of this week's $1.5 million
Pierro colt and reigning Golden Slipper winner Vancouver.
Later
in the day the Newhaven Park Sebring filly from Allow was sold to B2B
Bloodstock for the equal sale topping price of $230,000. The attractive
grey filly is the sixth foal of Rahy's Queensland Oaks winning daughter
Allow whose three runners to date are all winners on the track.
Willow
Park rounded out the day as the leading vendor on average (for three or
more sold) - the highlight of their draft being a Denman filly who sold
earlier in the session for $170,000.
Interestingly in similar fashion to the Book One sale the sires of the
six lots that topped today's auction when selling for $200,000 or more
were all by sires who were graduates of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
"Book
Two proved to be a great opportunity for buyers and vendors alike," Vin
Cox said. "Competition was strong as evidenced by the 81% clearance
rate and the momentum from Book One flowed through the day."
"The
combined gross of Book One and Book Two is almost $129 million and that
is over $27 million more than last year. This is a great result for
breeders who offered Magic Millions some of their best yearlings which
in turn we were able to attract a buying bench like we'd never seen
before."
"The
Jeep Magic Millions Carnival was spectacular from barrier draw to
raceday yesterday. The imagery, colour and quality of racing cut through
to the mainstream. That has got to be good for the Australian
thoroughbred industry as a whole."
"On
a personal note it is extremely rewarding to hear the positive comments
about the Magic Millions staff and the way they have conducted
themselves as hosts to everyone visiting the Gold Coast."
