29/6/2017 Gary Harley’s ‘Last Word’ @ Wyong

Newcastle trainer Ben Smith – devastated with the unlucky defeat of his crack mare In Her Time at Doomben – is hoping for a change of luck when his filly Our Girl Hollie runs in The Property Market Provincial and Country Maiden Plate (1100m) at Wyong on Thursday.

Smith has encountered a frustrating run of minor placings in recent months, particularly the unlucky second by In Her Time in the Group 1 Stradbroke. Our Girl Hollie is no In Her Time, however, her recent metropolitan form suggests that she will take no end of beating on Thursday. Blessed with genuine speed the filly has been beaten by a length in recent starts at Canterbury and Warwick Farm.

RACE 1 (BEST SIGNS AND SOLVERE WEALTH 3YO MAIDEN, 1000M): Goresbridge stands out here after finishing second on debut at Canterbury two weeks ago. On the back of three barrier trial wins the three-year-old was a short priced favourite at Canterbury where he led to the last bit. This race is 100m shorter and the track should be firmer. Yeas and Nays also has speed and she has been placed in all four starts. Emissions has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 3 GORESBRIDGE, 8 YEAS AND NAYS, 2 EMISSIONS

RACE 2 (HUCKEL EXCAVATIONS MAIDEN, 1350m): Ivoryman has been freshened up after two creditable performances this preparation. He came from last to be beaten 2.8 lengths at Randwick on Anzac Day and first up he was placed on this track. The 3yo has the advantage of the rails barrier and he is well placed. Zepherine was nailed on the post first up at Hawkesbury recently and she was placed in her only start here. The Patrician is racing well with placings at Newcastle and Gosford this month.
SELECTIONS: 1 IVORYMAN, 8 ZEPHERINE, 4 THE PATRICIAN

RACE 3 (CENTRAL COAST BULLDOGS MASTERS RUGBY LEAGUE MAIDEN, 1100m): Seething Jackal is a fast filly ready to win after two race starts. On debut on June 1 the filly led at Gosford when beaten three quarters of a length. In her second start, the 3yo again led but found the long straight at Newcastle beyond her. Seething Jackal is much better placed here with the trip 100m shorter than last start. Tears of Gold is on debut after sound recent barrier trial form and the American bred mare has the rails barrier. The Exchequer was placed in his only start at Canberra in February and he has had two recent trials.
SELECTIONS: 2 SEETHING JACKAL, 4 TEARS OF GOLD, 6 THE EXCHEQUER

RACE 4 (CASANOVA OYSTERS AND SEAFOOD BM 65, 1350m): Rosettas Whey put the writing on the wall when second in a strong race at Newcastle last start. She was held up on the turn and finished on well. She is a winner at Wyong and she has a soft draw. Lady Chalfont won well at Hawkesbury last start and she has speed and the apprentice claims 4kg. Rhymes is very consistent and she beat two subsequent winner at Newcastle two starts back.
SELECTIONS: 3 ROSETTAS WHEY, 1 LADY CHALFONT, 2 RHYMES

RACE 5 (THE PROPERTY MARKET PROV & COUNTRY MAIDEN, 1100m): Our Girl Hollie is a speedy filly in a winnable race. She has sat outside the leader in her two starts this preparation and was beaten a length in both. The 1100 metres around Wyong is ideal and the prospect of a soft track enhances her chances. Bucasia has been narrowly beaten in her past two starts at Gosford and she is quick. Power Command was unlucky when beaten two lengths on debut at Newcastle two weeks ago. She was making up good ground in the straight but ran into a dead end.
SELECTIONS: 8 OUR GIRL HOLLIE, 6 BUCASIA, 10 POWER COMMAND

RACE 6 (NAILED IT PROJECTS Cl 1, 1600m): Poldark hasn’t been far away in two starts at Gosford this preparation. He races on the pace and he may lead this field. He meets a similar field to last start when he did not have a clear run late. Florence Hill hasn’t been beaten far in his two Australian starts and he may go forward from the rails barrier. Chicago Stomp was a close third at Gosford last start in a similar race.
SELECTIONS: 3 POLDARK, 2 FLORENCE HILL, 1 CHICAGO STOMP

RACE 7 (GIVE ME FOR KIDS CHARITY CUP Cl 2, 1100m): Star Crossed resumes from a spell on the back of a brilliant Gosford trial win. He hasn’t raced since finishing 2.8 lengths behind Tactual Advantage at Randwick in January. He finished a close second a heavy track at Randwick last June and he was placed at Warwick Farm in December. Parlay Vous resumes from a wide barrier but he is smart. He has had four starts for a win and two seconds. In January he was narrowly beaten at Randwick and Gosford. Yarrapower easily beat a subsequent winner at Cessnock last start.
SELECTIONS: 3 STAR CROSSED, 2 PARLAY VOUS, 4 YARRAPOWER

RACE 8 (KERNICK LAW BM 65, 1350m): Helensburgh Ham is ready to win after three runs back from a spell. He is a bold front runner with good form on this track. He was runner up two starts back at Newcastle. Kool Vinnie has won three of his last four on the mid north coast and the 2kg claim is a big help. Street Pursuit won a Kembla Maiden by a big space two starts back.
SELECTIONS: 2 HELENSBURGH HAM, 1 KOOL VINNIE, 4 STREET PURSUIT
