3/4/2018 First for Shamus Award

The Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones-trained Mookareena (2 f ex Puerto Vallarta by Flying Spur) landed a two-year-old handicap over 1000 metres on debut at Wagga yesterday and in the process provided Widden Stud’s first season sire Shamus Award (Snitzel) with his first winner. The two-year-old filly beat Red Rock Stella (Redente) by a short-neck with All About Belle (Krupt) a further length and a half away in third. Dual Group One winner Shamus Award won the Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) as a three-year-old, before going on to land the Australian Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) two starts later.
