7/5/2018 Scone Yearling Sale’s big lift in quality

The richly endowed Scone Cup Carnival is to be followed on the Sunday and Monday May 13 and 14, by two days of horse sales conducted at the town’s White Park sales centre by national bloodstock sales company William Inglis.

They have been selling at Scone annually for seventy years, but have moved more upmarket in quality of yearlings catalogued in the last two or three, the appeal of the sale to both vendors and buyers boosted by the big race carnival and annual horse festival.

The quality of the yearling sale, one backed by the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association and which this year is the biggest in history, has also had a big lift through much bigger books of mares being put to individual sires and many of the sires at major studs having crops of over 100.  In consequence a bit percentage of the 292 lots catalogued, 202 lots on the Sunday and the balance on the Monday, for this year’s sale have been held over from the Sydney, Gold Coast or Melbourne sales.

Twenty-one of the Scone sires each had yearlings sell for $100,000 or more at the 2018 Easter Yearling Sale.  These sires included Not a Single Doubt (Easter top price $1,050,000), Dissident ($800,000), Medaglia ‘d’Oro (USA) ($750,000), Deep Field ($530,000), All Too Hard ($500,000), Hinchinbrook ($480,000), Stratum ($460,000), Rubick ($420,000), More Than Ready (USA) ($400,000), Olympic Glory (Ire) ($400,000), Uncle Mo (USA) ($350,000), Animal Kingdom (USA) ($350,000), Zoffany (Ire) ($320,000) and Savabeel ($320,000).
