7/10/2017 Viridine lands G2 Roman Consul

Unbeaten colt Viridine confirmed his status as the best southern-hemisphere-bred son of his sire Poet’s Voice when he stretched his winning sequence to four in a row in the G2 Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick on Saturday, 7 October.

Given a perfect ride by Brenton Avdulla, the colt was settled on the rail and took up the running early in the six-furlong contest. After surviving a brief challenge from eventual runner up Single Bullet, Viridine was untroubled inside the final furlong, racing clear win by two lengths.

Trainer James Cummings is now contemplating a further step in class to the G1 three-year-old sprints of the Melbourne spring.

Viridine joins  Poet’s Voice’s German G2 winner Poetic Dream and G1 Irish Champion Stakes runner-up Poet’s Word as their sire’s best progeny. The Godolphin colt is one of nine Stakes winners for his sire.
