11/11/2017 Triple Crown's Redzel is a Sprinting Superstar

Redzel laid claims to being the world's best sprinter after a dominant win in today's $1 million Group One Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington.

In a power house performance Redzel led from start to finish to win the Melbourne Cup Carnival's feature sprint by a comfortable three parts of a length.

The win was the sixth straight success for the outstanding son of Snitzel and it boosted an already incredible race record.

A winner of 11 of his 21 starts, Redzel has developed into Australia's champion sprinter of the season by continuing to beat all comers in a 12 months to remember.

Today was Redzel's first run since winning Australia's richest ever race, the $10 million The Everest at Randwick last month.

An orphan foal, Redzel was a graduate of the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale before eventually selling to Triple Crown Syndications for $120,000 at the 2014 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The outstanding short course star now boasts earnings of almost $7.8 million.

"He keeps proving the doubters wrong and keeps getting it done with professional performances," co-trainer Peter Snowden said.

"He just jumped - led - it was sustained speed and he just finished it right off. It was a dominant win again!"

"It's about the horse - he's so easy to train. He does everything we ask," Snowden added. "What we found out is to just space out his runs and give him an easy time between runs and he comes back to life again."

Snowden said Redzel would almost certainly be set for next year's The Everest while races like the TJ Smith Stakes would also be targets.

"He's a gelding and he's only five - so hopefully he can keep racing in great style, stay sound and the owners will have a great deal of fun," Snowden summed up.

The all the way win from Redzel impressed his regular rider Kerrin McEvoy.

"I was always controlling (the race) and well clear of the other group," McEvoy said. "He's so reliable, you know he's going to turn up and have a show."

"He just keeps achieving with what's put in front of him."

"He's the best older sprinter I've ridden," McEvoy summed up.

Redzel is a son of champion Arrowfield Stud sire Snitzel, who like today's star was sold at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Millrich, Redzel's group winning dam has also produced the Gold Coast sold group winner Danerich - the sire of Saturday's Group Two winning sprinter Rich Charm.
