Four days of Karaka televised
January 23, 2018

A special presentation to Sir Patrick Hogan will be part of this year’s National Yearling Sales televised coverage.

This year’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales, which begin on Sunday, will mark the end of an era for Sir Patrick Hogan, a member of both the Australian and New Zealand Racing Hall Of Fame.

It will be Sir Patrick’s last Karaka auction as a major vendor following the sale of his iconic Cambridge Stud to Brendan and Jo Lindsay.

New Zealand Bloodstock Chairman Joe Walls will make a presentation to Sir Patrick in recognition of Cambridge Stud’s significant achievements at the sales.

Cambridge Stud was the leading vendor for an unbroken 32 years and sold more than 1600 yearlings between 1978 and 2017 for an aggregate of just under $260 million with 11 of those individual lots selling for $1 million or more.

All coverage of Karaka Book 1 will be televised live on a pop-up channel, Sky 263, and the full 7-day sale will also be streamed live on the New Zealand Bloodstock website (www.nzb.co.nz) and through its Facebook page. The entire Monday session will also be televised live on racing.com along with other day highlights.

A half-hour sales preview show will also be televised on channel 263 before the commencement of selling on each of the four days of the Book 1.

Sunday 28th January – coverage from 4:30pm
Monday 29th January – coverage from 10:30am
Tuesday 30th January – coverage from 10:30am
Wednesday 31st January – coverage from 10:30am

The presentation to Sir Patrick will feature during the sales preview show on Wednesday week, the final day of the four-day session of Book 1.

Karen Fenton-Ellis, Aidan Rodley, Emily Bosson and racing.com’s Shane Anderson will present the coverage with Black Caviar’s trainer Peter Moody providing interviews as a relaxed, roving reporter.

The Karaka action will begin on Wednesday with the official barrier draws for both Saturday’s Karaka Million and the Karaka Million 3YO Classic being televised on Trackside 1 from 11.10am. The Karaka Million draw will be made at 11.15am and the Karaka Million 3YO Classic at 11.35am. – NZ Racing Desk
