16/10/2017 Johannes Vermeer to back up in Caulfield Cup

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Group One winner Johannes Vermeer (Galileo), who was an eye- catching second to Gailo Chop (Deportivo) in the Caulfield Stakes on Saturday, is set to run in the Caulfield Cup. The five-year-old entire is part-owned by Nick and Lloyd Williams, John Ingham, Gerry Ryan and Michael Gudinski and could be joined in the race by the Williams-owned Sir Isaac Newton (Galileo), who ran fifth
in the Turnbull Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m). Almandin (Monsun), who won last year’s Melbourne Cup
(Gr 1, 3200m), is an unlikely runner.
