21/8/2017 August sale catalogue has nice collection females

BREEDERS at all levels looking to invest in broodmares could find it of value to peruse the catalogue covering the Inglis Melbourne sale to be held at the Oaklands complex on August 25. A feature of the sale is to be the disposal through Greendale Trust of 25 horses, 24 of them females, of the bloodstock owned by the late M.D. Niall, a prominent Victorian breeder.

In the 63 lot broodmare section, one which opens the sale, the consignment on behalf of Niall includes daughters of world class sires Tapit, El Prado, Shamardal, Danehill and Rahy. In addition in the other sections are fillies by Pierro, Equiano, High Chaparral, Congrats and More Than Ready.

Nine of the 12 yearlings catalogued, foals of 2016, were bred by Niall and eight of these are fillies, including daughters of The Factor (two), Uncle Mo, Puissance de Lune and Master of Design.

Five of the Niall mares are believed to be in foal to Trust In The Gust, the dazzling dual Group winning sprinter got by the Sunday Silence Australian bred sire Keep the Faith, holder of the American grass record for 1200m, from Subtle Breeze, an American mare by Storm Cat. Trust In The Gust started his sire career last year at Adam Sangster’s Swettenham Stud.

Three of ten mares booked into the sale on account of Swettenham carry positives to Trust In The Gust and four others foals from second season use of Swettenham visitor Toronado, a High Chaparral world champion miler who had 175 mares in his first year and 142 last year.

Swettenham mares on offer include daughters of Encosta de Lago, Dehere, Manhattan Rain, Redoute’s Choice, Nicconi, Scenic and Stravinsky. The Redoute’s Choice mare, Lanesborough (2005), is a three-quarter sister to Blackfriars and the one by Dehere is related to I Am Invincible.

The sale also provides a very good opportunity to acquire some of the Godolphin magic as they have 23 females catalogued who have not been to stud. They include daughters of Street Cry, Commands, Teofilo, Lonhro, New Approach, Medaglia d’Oro, Poet’s Voice, Bernardini and Exceed and Excel.

Godolphin are to also offer 25 geldings in the racehorse section as part of their annual deplenishment.

Bel Air Miss (2010), the only mare in the catalogue by Bel Esprit, could be a good investment. On account of Blue Gum Farm and unserved in 2016, she is nearly a three-quarter sister to Black Caviar.

Among the sires with two or more females available are Commands (8), Snitzel (4), Street Cry (7), Not a Single Doubt (3), Lonhro (6), Encosta de Lago (3), High Chaparral (2), Toorak Toff (2), Shamardal (2), Bernardini (3),  Danzero (2), Medaglia d’Oro (3), Poet’s Voice (2), Nicconi (2), Rahy (2) and Magnus (2).
